Melanotan II (MT-2) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone that binds melanocortin receptors non-selectively (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R). Research vials are typically supplied as a lyophilized white powder at 5, 10, or 20 mg. Because reference research quantities sit in the microgram range, small bacteriostatic water volumes produce very high mg/mL concentrations and very small draw volumes, which is the dominant source of arithmetic error.

This calculator takes the lyophilized vial mass in milligrams, the bacteriostatic water volume in millilitres, and a target mass in micrograms, then returns the reconstituted concentration in mg/mL and mcg/mL, the draw volume in millilitres, the equivalent mark on a U-100 insulin syringe, and the number of full draws available per vial. A 10 mg vial reconstituted with 2.0 mL of BAC water gives 5 mg/mL, or 5,000 mcg/mL; a 250 mcg target is then 0.05 mL, which is 5 units on a U-100 syringe.

Handling reference: store lyophilized powder at minus 20 degrees Celsius protected from light, dispense bacteriostatic water down the inner vial wall, swirl gently rather than shaking or vortexing, hold reconstituted solution at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, discard cloudy or particulate solution, and label the vial with lot number, reconstitution date, and calculated concentration. The most common failure is confusing milligrams with micrograms, a 1,000-fold error. U-40 and U-100 syringes are not interchangeable.
